Can A Felon Vote?



Here's a more detailed answer with the statute cited.

·  A felon cannot vote while serving their sentence  

·  Once the sentence is fully completedfully completed restored automatically  

A person can vote if they have fully completed their sentence can vote if they have fully completed their sentence

• incarceration
• parole
• probation
• supervision

A person cannot vote  currently incarcerated  

Once all terms are complete, voting rights are automatically restored  



Another question: 

Can a person vote if they are incarcerated waiting trial?

Yes — a person who is incarcerated and waiting for sentencing (pre-trial) can     retain their voting rights  

In other words:

• If someone is awaiting sentencing and has not been convicted yetawaiting sentencing and has not been convicted yet
• A person loses the right to vote only after a final felony conviction and while they are still serving the sentence  

Although § 11.002 doesn’t explicitly discuss pre-trial incarceration, it defines a qualified voter based on final felony conviction status
